Follow the Money: Wisniewski is a politician for sale

But the facts show Wisniewski is not a reformer because he is better described as a typical pay-to-play politician who traded jobs and contracts paid at taxpayer expense for contributions to his political campaign fund. Those contributions have added up over the years to almost $5 million. The following table shows how much was contributed by each of the donors who gave Wisniewski a total of $4,852,287 during his 21 years as a Trenton insider.Among the donors are convicted criminals, tobacco companies, corporate tax dodgers and polluters. For example, he took $8,200 from Frank Gartland, or businesses associated with the convicted swindler who paid millions of dollars in bribes to maintain insurance contracts with New Jersey municipalities. The insurance broker pleaded guilty to bilking the Perth Amboy school board out of $2.5 million and swindling more than $16 million from the Toms River School District.Wisniewski accepted $6,350 from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and $500 from Philip Morris USA, Inc. and he took thousands more from oil companies and other big polluters. After playing a major role in bringing red-light cameras to New Jersey, Wisniewski accepted $3,250 from Redflex Traffic Systems Inc., the company that paid Chicago $20 million to settle bribery charges. Most of Wisniewski’s political money came from businesses that rely on government contracts, unions whose members do a large amount of government work or are in fact public employees, and others which greased palms to help pass specific legislation considered by lawmakers. While such behavior shocks many people, the unethical trades are all part of a complex system that essentially keeps certain kinds of bribery strictly legal.AmountDonor$156,800CME ASSOCIATES$113,150PLUMBERS & PIPEFITTERS LOCAL 9 PAC$84,150CONSTRUCTORS FOR GOOD GOVT$71,300NJEA PAC$64,700DRIVE PAC (Democrat, Republican, Independent Voter Education)$56,000NJ STATE LABORERS PAC$49,100REALTORS PAC$46,350CWA NJ PEC$45,900OPERATING ENGINEERS LOCAL 825$45,550NJ MOTOR TRUC...
